Chiropractic is a conservative (non-surgical) method of health care
which concerns itself with keeping the body running at it's peak level
by maintaining and restoring the body's nervous system. It is based
on the fact that the nervous system controls the function of every
body part, organ, tissue and even the cells in our body.

Chiropractic heals from the inside out by removing the impingements
caused by your bones, joints and muscles that affect your body's
nerves.

Chiropractors remove these impingements with special techniques
called "adjustments" or "manipulations" which simply means moving
the part that is causing the impingement.  When the cause of
impingement is gone, you will feel and function much better.  Your
body can go back to the optimal state of health that we would all like
to be in.

You don't have to be hurt to visit a chiropractor, in fact we would
rather see you when you feel good - We can do more and you will
feel even better!!  This will also keep you from getting hurt in the first
place and keep you performing at your absolute best!  Just like
getting an oil change for your car, nothing has to be broken - it just
helps to have some routine maintenance done every so often.
Are Chiropractors actual doctors?

On top of our undergraduate education, all chiropractors attend additional schooling in one of 15
chiropractic schools across the country or one of the few in foreign countries.  After passing four sets of
national board exams, we then get state licensed and take State board exams as well.  Dr. Peters and
Dr. Viersen finished their ninth year of college in November 2001, graduating from
Northwestern College
of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Chiropractors also have to constantly continue their education with classes and seminars across the
country ensuring that they have the best education, latest research and the newest tools and techniques
available to best treat any variety of conditions.

You do not need a referral to be seen by a chiropractor.   We are primary care doctors in the
same manner that your family MD is.  We also look at much more than just your back and neck - feet,
knees, shoulders, digestive problems, headaches - all of the body is part of our day to day routine. If your
complication is out of our scope of practice or you need further X-rays, MRI's or need to be seen by
another specialist such as an orthopedist, cardiologist or neurologist, chiropractors refer you to right
person, just like any competent doctor would do.  Chiropractic is almost always covered by your
insurance.
Many people aren't aware of the differences within our profession.  Just like the specialities in the medical
field, chiropractic also has many specialties and subsets.  The method that we predominantly use in
this
office is called Applied Kinesiology (AK).
Applied Kinesiology is a special subcategory of chiropractic.

As with most other forms of chiropractic, Applied Kinesiology, also known as AK, contacts specific points on
the body in order to make very skilled adjustments and manipulations.  AK is unique in that it uses the
patient's own strength as a feedback mechanism
in order to better diagnose how the patient's body is
functioning biomechanically.  In general, the applied kinesiologist finds a muscle that tests weak and then
attempts to determine why that muscle is not functioning properly.  The doctor will then evaluate and apply
the adjustment and therapy that will best eliminate the muscle weakness and help the patient.

Because of the strong importance of the muscle techniques involved,
AK works very well for athletes and
active lifestyle people.
These people tend to be very sensitive to their bodies and AK allows for both a very
subjective and objective view of what is happening to their bodies and why the treatments are working.

AK also has a great reputation of working very well and
very quickly.  Applied Kinesiologists tend to look at
both the
structural component of your body (the bones and joints) and the muscular component which attach
to the bones and joints to allow for movement.  This is a full spectrum approach and when both the muscle
and the joints are treated, the outcomes tend to be very good and with quick, long lasting results.

Finally, Dr. Peters and Dr. Viersen are athletes themselves.  We know what your injuries feel like because
we
get them too
.  We know the athlete's body and how it functions and what it takes to continue and accel at
your sport, hobby or training routine.  Both of us were personal trainers before going back to chiropractic
school and we continue to offer advise and elite training programs ideas for our athletes.

Most importantly, at Armadillo Sport Chiropractic, we understand that just stopping what you love to do

isn't an option!
"But I, My doctor, My family, My brother, My favorite magazine  etc... doesn't believe in Chiropractic"

Yeah, this is one we hear all the time.  People assume all chiropractors are exactly the same.  As with any
profession there are people who are good at what they do and others that aren't so great.  I'll be the first
to tell you that not all of us do the same stuff and chiropractic doesn't work on every patient every time.

Just because you've had a friend, teacher, therapist, doctor or someone else tell you it's dangerous or
scary or doesn't work, doesn't mean they are right.  Neither does a mechanic fix a car every time or a
medical doctor cure a cold every time.  Even if you've had a bad experience in the past give us a try.  The
excuse  "I don't believe in chiropractors" is like saying "I don't believe in cars" because yours didn't start
one morning - or not brushing your teeth because of one experience your friend had at the dentist.

What exactly is chiropractic?
