Dr. Peters' Sports PROJECT
Thanks for reading this! - I
appreciate your help!

One night Dr. Viersen and I
were talking about why we
(and so many other people
in the world) have such a
passion for sports and
why they seem so
important to so many
people.
You know, it's not just spending Sundays watching TV or sitting down at
the stadium for a baseball game on a perfect spring day, there is
something more, that gets deep down to the
very soul of us.
Nikki and I were both lucky enough to see the country
while playing our favorite sports, we got our college
education paid for by playing sports - but there is some
reason why they are even more important.  I wondered
what it was.
I decided that I would start asking people to take a minute and really
think about
what made sports so important to them, why they trained
so hard, or what made them stand up during the Superbowl and yell
and dance when their team got an interception.

It didn't take to long and I started getting some amazing response
from all over the country and even the world.

I've got great emails from all kinds of people - from couch potatoes to
Olympic and professional athletes, from coaches to grandparents
watching little league.

I want more...

I want to collect a HUGE amount of response from all around the world.

What is the Pinnacle of sports?  Sports at it's absolute finest?

To motivate you and get you on track I want to share a few of the responses I've
recieved already.

"The sound of a hockey check at thirty below"

"Those split seconds after a football's been tipped in the air and everything just slows
down to the point of almost being still - every player on the field is looking up and
desperatly trying to get to that ball!"

"4...3...2...1...SWISH!"

"The feel of rain splashing off your shoes and onto your back because you're running
SO FAST!"

"Perfect contact. Regardless of which sport"

The picture at the right sums up what I LOVE about sports - it's one of my
favorite
ever.

The shorter kid is
Aaron - his dad and I were partners on the tennis team.  He
sent me the picture and the story...

Aaron began playing tennis three months earlier at the
age of 10. The
photo is at his first tournament, first opponent. He was entered in the
14-year old bracket by mistake.  He hung in there and lost in the final game
at deuce.

He has since entered three other tournaments, finishing 4th, 3rd,
and 3rd in his age group (twice he finished 1st in the consolation bracket).
As we were driving home from practice one day he said, "Dad. You know why I
like tennis? Because it's a fun place to be, a fun game, and nice
people."

-still to this day, one of my best responses!
keep them coming.
